CAN ANYBODY ADVISE ON FOREST GLASS? ....updated with pics today
« on: September 29, 2013, 04:18:34 PM »
Hi,
I have just bought a small collection of glasses and am quite excited about two of them.
I think that they may be forest glass and c 16th century but unsure. They are purple/aubergine  in colour and are irregular in
shape& by that I mean individual and whilst same shape overall they differ in size etc.
They do have impurities in the glass as well as the blow bubbles and it is the impurities that make me feel they are of forest glass, possibly European -German?
From my own research it seems that glass was blown by taking the minerals to the wooded areas and when the wooded areas were exhausted , just moved on to the next copse .Chop the  trees down , burn 'em and make the glass and so on.

I do not know , however , how to attach photos.
If anybody can help I would be very much obliged and would love you to see them. ( also some others in the collection)
thanks

Monty
