Wavy ribbed vase. Circa 1930.
« on: August 19, 2015, 11:44:21 AM »
I found this beauty yesterday. It is around 8" tall and finished in a light amethyst colour way. The inside is six sided and this corresponds to the six waves on the rim. Totally stunning and in great condition.

I initially thought Elfverson as the Glass association journal 8 shows pattern 3033a at 8" tall. Then I thought Whitefriars 8341 or 8871 but these are only 6" tall, 1938 catalogue.

Any ideas? Is this another "Stourbridge" vase?

Not WF. I should think Stromberg.

Shall we move it to here? http://www.whitefriars.com/smf1/index.php/board,15.0.html

Thanks Wolfie. Looking at your comments on another post, my vase is defo not the 8871. My concerns over Stromberg is the heavy base design and that put me in mind of the smaller 8341.

I thought that Stromberg vase sides blended nicely with the base, mine seems a bit heavy. However and whatever, another great find.

Quite happy for the thread to be moved.

Hi Andrew.

I could ask Nils if you are happy for me to use your images? Personally I'm not sure :/

Of course Marc, please use any of my images as you think fit. If any more are needed, just ask. Many thanks.

Hi Andrew. I have an answer :).

This vase is first shown in the Elfverson catalogue from the mid '30s pattern number 3051 and is designed by Dunne Cooke. However the vase then reappears in 1940 as Strombergshyttan pattern number B283.

So wether it's a '30s Elfverson or a '40s Strombergshyttan it's not known. Either way it was originally designed by DC for Elfverson and then released for Strombergshyttan.

 Hope this helps :).

Many thanks to Nils for this information.

Many thanks to Marc and Nils for the information.

Prior to reading this post, I re-read the article in Volume 8 and the answer was there at the bottom of page 43!!!

Really happy to have "liberated" this piece from the depths of obscurity.

Been watching that for a while. Postage kills it for me.
